What Are Internet Explorer Security Zones?

There are 5 levels of security setting available for each Internet Explorer security zone.
These levels are (from least secure to most secure):

• Low
• Medium-Low (default for Local Intranet)
• Medium (default level for Trusted Sites)
• Medium-High (default for Internet or unclassified sites)
• High (default for Restricted Sites)

How to Change the Default Security Level For a Zone

To change the default security level for any zone, perform the following steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, select Internet Options
3. Select the tab labeled Security
4. Select the zone which you want to change the default security level
5. Slide the bar to the security level that you want to use for that particular zone
6. Click Apply
7. Click OK

** Note that not all security levels are available for each zone.

How to Manually Edit Security Settings for a Security Zone

To customize security options for a security zone in Internet Explorer:
(Note: this is only recommended for advanced users)

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, select Internet Options
3. Select the tab labeled Security
4. Select the zone which you want to edit the settings
5. Click Custom level…
6. Make desired changes
7. Click OK
8. Click Apply
9. Click OK
10. You need to close your browser and restart for changes to take effect

To remove history saved by Google searches, please follow the steps below:

IE7:

1. Open IE
2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options
3. Choose the tab labeled General
4. Under Browser History, select Delete
5. Next to Form data, choose Delete forms…
6. Click Yes

IE 6:

1. Open IE
2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options
3. Choose the tab labeled Content
4. Under Personal Information, select Autocomplete
5. Select Clear Forms
6. Click Yes

Firefox:

1. Open Firefox
2. From the Tools menu, select Options
3. Choose the tab labeled Privacy
4. Select Clear now…
5. Put checkmark next to the box labeled Saved Form and Search History
6. Click Clear Private Data Now
